In this article, I'll be introducing you to the Govee RGBICW Floor Lamp Basic.

Lighting changes the way that your background looks, the way you show up on camera, and the overall feel of the video. You can see what the lamp looks like behind me to the left in the photo below.

You can check out the lamp here (Govee Website) or at https://geni.us/jWI4e (Amazon).

It's super important to have a light like a floor lamp that you can switch between multiple colors depending on the vibe that you're in.

What's Inside

Let's go ahead and jump into what all this comes with.

Govee Box

With the basic floor lamp, you'll find a quick-start guide that will have about 6 steps in it for you to follow. We'll also go over these steps a bit further down in the article, but it is pretty easy to install.

Next, you'll find the user manual which is super important for you to be able to download the Govee Home app. This app allows you to be able to control the light.

Then, you'll have the light strip itself. There are about 16 million different color formats that you can utilize with this light strip.

It will also come with the brackets that you'll have to put together in order to make the light stand.

Underneath the foam in the box, you'll find the base itself. On the base, you'll find a small connector that you'll connect to the light strip for it to work.

Base Connecting Piece

You'll also have a remote control that you can use to power the light on and off if you want to do this manually. Again, you can control all of this using the mobile app as well. If you have a Google Home or an Alexa, you can also use these to control the lights.

Lastly, in the final box, you'll have everything you need for the power supply. It will also have the brackets that connect the four pieces of the light stand together. All of the screws and even a screwdriver are also included in this for you to be able to use.

Putting the Light Together

Once you have everything outside of the box, the installation process is pretty simple. You'll see that this is going to be a four-step process.

Installation Tips for Govee Light

Step one is to insert the connecting piece with the end, showing the holes into the pole.

Step two is to align the metal slots with the holes of the connecting piece.

Step three is to make sure that the two poles are closely aligned and tightened.

Step four is to get the strip light and press it in the pole, starting from the middle and working towards the two ends.

Utilizing the App

This is where it gets exciting and into why I love this light. With the app, you're able to use this to control the light and colors. There are so many different ways to be able to customize this.

Once you have the app installed and connected to your light, as outlined in the user guide, you'll see all of the options that we have here.

Govee App for Controlling Light

The first thing you're going to see here is the ability to just select from standard colors like yellow, orange, blue, etc...

You're also able to change every little light section where it says 'Segment Management'. With this, you can decide what color you want each specific part of the light to have. This allows you to create a gradient or to just change up the colors how you want.

You'll also find different 'Scenes' here as well. These are going to be predefined scenes that you can go ahead and utilize. For example, let's say I go to 'Life' and then select 'Tunnel', the light is going to cycle through some different colors.

The 'Illumination' options will allow you to use this just like a regular floor lamp.

'Music' is probably one of my favorite options to utilize as it will change the light based on the music and the beat that you're listening to. This will also pick up on your voice. If you put this on 'Rhythm' especially, you'll see that the light will operate to the sound of your voice.

You also have the option to go to 'DIY' and create your own effects. You can choose from one of their options or you can select 'Finger Sketch' to adjust it yourself.

I like to utilize the 'AI' tool. You can come into this and tell the Lighting Bot to "create a lighting scene for playing Call of Duty." It will send that and then come back with its suggestion for the best lighting setup.

You can then decide whether or not to apply these settings.

The customizations here are endless. You can choose from so many different colors and selections; there are tons of options to utilize.

This is why I love using this light. It absolutely changes the vibe and dynamic of the stream as well as changing how I show up on camera.

Lighting is so important for your streams and how you're seen. To learn more about how to light yourself well, be sure to check out this video here where I discuss the two Elgato key lights that I use to light myself.
